3Points in the Chicago Community
Serving our Chicago community is a key part of the 3Points culture.
Serving our Chicago community is a key part of the 3Points culture.
Founded in 2009 by 3Points President Kevin Doyle, the Sheilah A. Doyle Foundation provides outreach to the children who have lost a parent, guardian or sibling to homicide in the Chicago area. Sheilah Doyle, Kevin’s mother, was murdered when three men attempted to steal the hood of her car. The loss was a defining moment for Kevin, who saw many other children in his situation in the Chicago community.
This program includes a three-day camp, during which campers can join an open forum with others who share their experience. There is also a one-day experience for parents, and the foundation routinely awards scholarships to campers who plan to attend a university.
Since its inception, 3Points has been the largest financial supporter of the foundation, and several of our employees play a role in its operations. More information on the Sheilah A. Doyle Foundation, including volunteer opportunities, can be found here.
People in society tend to define you by your loss. If I could let these kids know one thing, it’s that they aren’t alone in their grief journey.”
The Small Business Advocacy Council (SBAC) was founded in 2010 to promote the interests of small businesses in the Chicago community. The underlying philosophy for the SBAC is the advancement of small business interests through non-partisan political action, networking and education.
The SBAC has several chapters throughout the Greater Chicago area and currently represents more than 1,000 businesses. 3Points CEO Steve Banke serves on the SBAC Board of Directors, and 3Points offers financial support and representation at the organization’s events.
Since its founding in 2010, the SBAC has recorded several major policy victories at the state and federal level. One of these accomplishments was nationwide Section 179 reform, which now allows small businesses to receive tax deductions of up to $500,000 each year on capital expenditures. Another major legislative accomplishment was the elimination of barriers preventing intrastate equity crowdfunding in Illinois, an initiative that flew through the state legislature with full bipartisan support.
All SBAC activities are meant to remedy the pain points of small businesses nationwide – businesses that are often forgotten by legislators even though they employ more than 50% of working Illinoisans. In addition to the organizations that 3Points actively supports, we aim to foster a culture of community involvement in our business. Our employees are encouraged to proactively seek opportunities to give back to the Chicago community with the knowledge that they have the company’s full support.
At 3Points, we believe that commercial success comes with the responsibility to better the world around us. It’s a belief that we try to embody in our decisions every day, as a business and as individuals.
